By nature of the business, every one of them will take you for all they can. Do your homework before you go in; e.g., Consumer Reports Car Buying service or something similar. Know about all the dealer rebates and incentives.
I don't think I've ever walked out of a car dealership thinking " that was a great experience". The possible excitement of purchasing a nice , new vehicle is dampened by having to be in total defense mode to keep from getting screwed.
Last vehicle I bought new I did online and with a dealer in NH. They delivered the vehicle to the Bridgeport/Port Jeff Ferry. Compared to my experiences with dealerships on LI, it was much less stressful.
The website cars direct usually takes into account all the incentives before quoting a price. You can use their prices as a starting point when negotiating and get the dealership to beat it.
Smithown Nissan and Mid Island Hyundai were the worst.
I leased a car from Nardy. Wasnt the worst experience but it wasnt the best either. Made the deal, sat down and Ipoired over the numbers....of course they made many "mistakes"...none of them to my benefit. Called the manager over and said you habe two minutes to match your numbers with the deal or I go somewhere else. They fixed everything.
As one poster said...they are there to get the most from you....walk into a dealership with an attitude and dont be...in their terminology..a "lay down"
