I'm having a really hard time adjusting to my new area. As nice as it is, it's not "home". I am finding myself to be a lot more "homesick" than I thought.

It's been almost 4 weeks since the move and I find myself counting the days till I go "home" to NY for a visit.

I'm wondering if anyone else has gone through this.

That's perfectly normal. 4 weeks is nothing, give it time. Adjusting to a new place isn't easy.

Wow 3 weeks into a move and hints of regret You're in for a very very long and hot summer!

I'm still in the honeymoon phase and it's almost been 6 years!

Just curious......where did you move? It has not been a long time.......give yourself time to make new connections. Hopefully, this will help you to adjust to your new home. Change is hard but give it a chance.

I know it takes a while to settle into a new area, and I am giving it a chance (signed a year lease, so I am committing for at least that long). I just didn't think I would feel this way about an area I visited quite a few times, and really liked. Perception is definitely not reality.

it's really not any ONE thing. it's so many things compounding it for me.

Did you move "cold" or do you have friends there? Is it a single family home or a community? When DH and I decided to move here we did pros and cons of a community or single family home and the only pro we came up with for a single family home was no HOA fee. We were "cold" here and wanted the opportunity to have built in "friends" rather than wait until we established ourselves in the area. We are thrilled with our new life and have been since we moved in. We do miss things like pizza and bagels and people but we really don't miss Long Island. Don't get me wrong, I still love LI and am proud that I lived there and would never want to have lived elsewhere for over 50 years, but this is my home now.

IF you are in a community do you join in the activities offered? IF not, maybe you should. Do you belong to a particular church or synagogue or have a specific interest like running, tennis , bowling, golf? You need to join some activities. My home also kept me busy getting it just the way I wanted it decorated so I think you are expecting too much too soon.

Takes a year to get acclimated. To find places you like to shop, decent people, places to eat, a good haircut. In 4 weeks you're still getting the cable turned on, wondering when it's trash day and trying to find which way is up. Be positive and embrace the change.

We moved cold - we know no one here. We are renting in a community. Everyone here is very nice and friendly, but also most ppl have families and are very involved in their own lives, which is fine... I don't expect anyone to fall over themselves trying to be friends with us.

It's just not what I expected at ALL. I grossly underestimated how much I would miss my friends and family. I just keep thinking - what is the point of having this big, nice place if it's empty and I can't share it with loved ones?
