Just to let you know....a good portion of volunteers here on long island are "real firefighters" for FDNY too. Oh, and tell the boys of Hempstead FD or Long Beach FD, that the apartment house fires they fight, don't compare to "real firefighters".
There isn't a building above 2 stories in my area and probably most of long island.
Compare that with the INTENSITY of fighting an office building or apartment house fire in NYC.
Most vollies never see fires like real firemen do.
Why don't you go down to a firehouse on LI and tell them that yourself. You are the most hateful person out here and your comments in this thread are insulting to the volunteers who just may help you one day. Nominated for dumbest poster of the year with this. Mr. Tough Guy over the computer.
that's IT?? 10%? I thought it was much higher than that. Why does LI have volunteer FD anyway? Is it because there's no $ left over after the schools pillage the property tax fund?
Are you insane have you seen the money the chief get's paid or the cost of those fire trucks. Jericho just build a new fire house that looks like a luxury building right across the street from one that looks fine.
They also get a bit of a pension in Nassau County. The odd part is the more expensive a home you have the more sense it makes to be a firefighter yet firefighters often have little homes or dont even own a home.
I once looked at a 1.7 million dollar home for fun once and one of owners was a volunteer fiighter as 10% off in taxes on a home wtih that big an assessment is huge

Towns like Oceanside Long Island which has huge factories, department Stores, Junk Yards and a LIPA plant it is pretty dangerous. You are thinking cutie towns like SeaCliff or something.

School taxes are separate from town property taxes. Check your bill. You might pay to one assessor, but your school tax money does not stay in your town.
Oh, because fires that have paid depts have hotter than fires that have volunteers fighting them. Gotcha.
Intensity is synonymous with concentration. There is a far greater concentration of fires in areas with paid FD's as opposed to those covered by volunteer FD's. Perhaps that was 30to66at55's intended use of the word intensity.

Aren't LBFD paid?
