I believe they give you a choice or they used to if you want a refund or difference applied to bill.

I did it once and will NEVER do it again! One year they “forgot” to balance my bill & sent me a bill for over $1,000
So, now I just pay the bill every other month as billed. Why should I give them a months in advance?

In the summer my bill is an extra $75 +/- because of the A/C. Otherwise, my bill is always within $25 +/- every other month.

I use balanced billing for both PSEG and National Grid. Once you get a year of data with them, it seems very accurate. I did owe $250 more once with PSEG within the first year as they were using the previous owners estimates who had a summer home at the beach and didn't live in the house much in the summer. Helps a lot with National Grid as those winter bills are brutal.

I'm currently at $238/month. My outdoor hot tub died, so we disconnected it in April. According to the useage page on my PSEG account, my electric useage is down 29% over last year. I'm curious to see how this will play out when I am recalculated.
