You can shop anywhere you want. You don't need to shop on the beach too, where endangered wildlife is nesting. You let people build near the beach, and they will do just that-build right on the beach, leaving a thin strip, like Biloxi or Atlantic city.

still trying to figure out why someone would want to take a "day trip to a beach" without actually going to the beach.

There are at least a dozen eateries in "walking distance" from the boardwalk in Long Beach, AND there are food trucks parked at the boardwalk entrance at Riverside all summer long, so I really have no idea what you're even talking about here (unless you're considering 4-5 blocks from the boardwalk to be "too far," that's the only possible explanation for you saying this).

Other people chimed in on this thread and said there aren't any good restaurants near the boardwalk. No needs to be so snarky.

It's a bay beach, not an ocean beach. If we're going to suggest bay beaches, might as well toss in Babylon Village. Or head north to the harbor towns of Huntington, Northport, and Port Jefferson.

Everything in Long Beach is on Park Ave and Beech Street. LB is not that wide. From the boardwalk to Park Ave is certainly walkable. It doesnt need to be right on the beach to be considered walkable.
