It's congress intervention day! Thomas Prendergast is heading down to Washington today.

I'm not holding my breath though.

Hes not going to ask for help from what I understand. Hes going to ask if they intend to get involved.

He seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth.

Sunday he told the unions not to rely on Congress to get involved, know ow he's in Washington asking for involvement?

I'm sorry Jdawg, its looking more and more likely that you'll need a plan that doesn't involve the MTA

A monthly fare from NYC to Ronkonkoma is already approaching 400 bucks! 400 bucks! Why not just make it 800 bucks, I am sure the tax and fare payers won't mind. Let's just keep giving the unions of Long Island retroactive raises and free non-contributable health care to people that sit around, scratch themselves, and punch tickets, the same thing that monkeys in the Bronx Zoo do for free each day. Inflation is private sector wages and benefits is fixed. Inflation in LIRR fares, surcharges, and property taxes is not fixed, has been spiraling out of control, and has been eating up an ever greater percentage of working class folks income for years. The taxpayers and fare payers of the LIRR need to go out on strike.

NY, they do believe it or not do more than just punch tickets. There is actually a test they have to take and they have to know all the rail symbols and rules and things like that.

That said, while yes the fares are astronomical, if raising fares will keep them from striking, then I'm ok with it. I have to be at work so I'd rather have an expensive POS railroad than no railroad at all.

I'd rather have one that works and doesnt cost more money.

This is why Long Island needs more than one rail option.

What is a make-or-break amount that you'd have a hard time paying? Because realistically you have another 30 years of work ahead of you, and fares aren't going down. Hopefully YOUR salary will keep pace, though.

That make or brake point would realistically change. Fares, salary, and inflation will change.
