And where do you live?

I used to make $50K on the Island. I now make about a third of that...but live 100x better than I did there. (Such is the case when you don't have any debts, and when you reduce your tax burden to the bare minimum.)

What do you do about things such as health insurance? How about retirement savings? I actually agree with you that, "We're in for some very dire economic, political and societal situations in the coming years."

I've never had health insurance in my life. For the vast majority of people, it's a rip-off. (People see the "list price" on a bill, and think that's what they would have had to pay- but in reality, if you self-pay, they have to give you the same low price that they give to the ins. co.s/Medicare/etc. ).

I don't plan on retiring- Don't believe in it. (And what would I do? I don't watch TV/play games/or enjoy going to festivals and events...)- Living with a low cost-of-living, and without big expenses like health insurance, though, I am able to stash away a good deal of moolah.

Glad we can agree on the dire straits ahead. You'd think that such an observation would be a no-brainer, and that most would agree with it- but it seems 90% of the people are either oblivious or just don't want to face reality. You can read news sites fropm other countries- they even realize what is going on here.

Shoot.... Everyone in NY is always at each other's throats even when times are good; can you imagine when things get really bad?!

So, your plan when you get that near inevitable debilitating long term illness is to live off the rest of us?

I do have a friend doesn't have insurance. He said that when the time comes, he will put a bullet in his head. He said he can afford a bullet.

I make you suffer because I haven't been to a doctor since 1978? Or is it because I can take care of my own health/injuries? Or is it because I pay my own expenses out of my own pocket? Or because I have not spent over $100,000 in insurance premiums over the past few decades?

Maybe you should be looking at the politicians whom you elect, who fill this country with illegal immigrants, and then make laws that people can not be refused service at a hospital! Don't blame people like me, who pay our own way or who don't even use the system!
