I just came home in this rainstorm doing 75 on the LIE with no ramifications. No one died. No one was pushed off the road. I just sat in the middle lane, doing 75mph, keeping up with the flow of traffic. IN THE RAIN.

I can't believe lives weren't lost.
Because the speed limit is set as a revenue generating device, not a safety one. If it were a safety concern then the limit would be increased as safety standards and vehicle performance increase, which it hasn't.
Ask youself why the LIE (3+1 HOV with full lane width shoulders in most areas) has a speed limit of 55 while I95 which will be much more windy with elevation changes and 2-3 lanes with soft shoulders will be 75 in some areas.

I've brought up those reasons but you know who isn't satisfied with that. I completely agree with you. You know the system is flawed when the speed limit is the same o the LIE and parkways as it is for some stretches of 347, Deer Park Avenue, etc.
Off I go to work - look out world, here comes speedy.
When speed cameras are installed...there will be nothing more that could bother me. You, on the other hand, might have a stroke.
