We know where people live on Long Island, but where do they work at if not in the city? What are the major job centers and employment areas of Long Island?
Above poster about summed it up. But there are offices and places of business all over the Island. But if you are looking for the main hubs it would be Jericho, Hauppauge, Melville and then to a lesser degree places like Smithtown, Setauket-Stony Brook (Medical), and even Riverhead.
An ESTIMATION from biggest to smaller:
1. Hauppauge/Bohemia/Islandia/Edgewood business district.
2. Melville/E.Farmingdale business district.
3. East Garden City
4. Hicksville/New Cassel near the LIRR
5. Lake Success
6. Medford
....Then everything else.
Schools and Shopping Centers not included in the list.
BTW: Edgewood is located between Brentwood, Deer Park and Bay Shore and pretty close to Hauppauge.
