Welcome back. Hope you're enjoying your visit. When you start to get emotional, just remember how much money you're saving, how much less stress you've got, and how much nicer the people are.

Are people nicer? What about that saying? In NY, they'll say it to your face. In other places, they'll just say it behind your back.

RecentlyMoved, the first year is always hard!
The only reason my move was easy is because I travel between the two cities a lot, so I was already familiar. Had I taken the job in Raleigh, it definitely would've been a bigger adjustment. Remind yourself why you moved and try to find new things you love in your new city. It'll be a losing proposition if the only advantages are filling in the holes of what Long Island doesn't have (ie- it's cheaper than Long Island, less traffic than Long Island, etc.). Instead, focus on the unique things The Triangle has to offer.
My first visit back was sort of awkward too, however. It's strange to be "home" but not at your own place.
You'll make it!
