A big story here buried in other bad news:

"Through June, Nassau had a 9 percent decline in sales tax revenue... this lower level of sales tax revenue may be the new norm."

Nassau County is on the road to Gulottaville - Editorial - Newsday

The picture I'm seeing is that Nassau will be broke a** forever if no changes are made. Will Nassau raise property taxes to make up for the shortfall? How high can they go? To the moon, Alice I suppose.

What are their alternatives, aside from continuous cash-grab gimmicks like the new speed cameras, etc.

Maybe we can over charge the feds for all the illegal alien kids they are shipping our way? Or tax the non profit that has them in 50 cottages in Syosset?
What would that property be worth on the open market? That would bring a pretty hefty tax bill.

That's some nice location, right by the golf course. And cottages? From an aerial view, it looks like dormitory buildings or garden apartments. Not many cottages are visible, and one I did see looked more like a field house.

According to this http://www.mercyfirst.org/newsroom/A...alReport08.pdf
MercyFirst takes care of those who've been abused, neglected, have emotional problems, mental illness, are orphaned, etc. If this facility is filled with foreign 'children' where will citizen children in need turn?

Guess there's not enough money in domestic issues.

Paint the white ones brown and rename them Pedro?

Loved that the "charity" got 49 million out of 50 million in revenue from the govt. Sweet deal for them: 49 million with no taxes owed.

Well, when people are forced to buy Obamacare for hundreds per month (3 X's more for family) who has extra money to spend? It's not just Nassau.
