FL is beautiful but the weather is just so uncomfortably sticky in summer time! It'll be low 80's here today... Perfect
I have family in the Southwest Florida (beautiful area) area and, yes, it is humid in the summer. However, they say we have to escape the cold during our winter months longer than they have to escape the heat in the summer months......without all that ice, snow and freezing temperatures.

Meh. I like to ski so I like living in a place where I can do that. Granted not on LI, but within 2-3 hours.

OP.. Unless you drop the COL factor, all you really got is SoFla, mainly east coast for the big tamale Miami.
Fort Lauderdale is pretty happening, though and i can see you and your gal giving that a go. Tampa could be fun, too, but it's not my turf so i can't weigh in.

I retired in Delray 4 years ago, sold LI two years ago and the humidity is not as bad - actually not for as long a duration - as i expected. I am finding end of July-Aug to be the worst but I am treating it as if it's a very, very, short Northern winter - without the heavy clothing. And remember, you don't get your car stuck in or shovel heat.

This time of year I don't go to the beach much but when i do it's actually not bad, 'cept you gotta watch out for afternoon thunderstorms. Sometimes big ones.
The rest of the year, from October-June I find it to be delightful.
But i like warm weather - just sayin'.
