Cross Bronx to GWB to palisades parkway to 87 north. I went to college outside Albany and this was by far - on a regular basis - the quickest route. Of course that was *ahem* quite a few years ago. But we also used to go to Saratoga every summer till about 10 years ago and that was the route we always took. You can make it to Albany in 3 hours barring any major traffic issues. I have tried every route there is and this one was always the best.
My cousins lived in Sloatsburg and I was at SUNY Albany freshman year. We would drive GWB to 4 to 17 and pick up 87 outside Ramapo, just south of the Sloatsburg travel plaza. I also used this route to drive up to the Quickway..
I go to the Adirondacks 8 to 10 times per year. Do yourself a favor and get the mobile app Waze. It will provide you the most efficient path from point A to point B and update the route in real-time.
Funny how popular this thread got when the premise was really "What's the best way to get out of Long Island?"
Ha ha! I didn't want to be so blunt!
