we are considering buying a home in Jericho/Syosset and I work at 225 liberty street (near wall street).
What are my options and how long is the commute?
Assuming I will need to park at Hicksville station

LIRR takes 45-50 mins from Hicksville, abit longer from Syosset. There's a nice new parking garage for Oyster Bay Town residents (which will include you). There's more trains at Hicksville, most of which are express in rush hour so you dont make many stops (good for you, bad for me in Westbury).
You may be better off taking trains that go to Atlantic Terminal if you'll be working downtown, since there's better subway options from there (and its a shorter ride). The 2,3,4,5 all stop near Wall Street. At Penn all you would have is the 2,3.
The other benefit is Atlantic Terminal trains aren't as crowded. Never understood why so many would rather go to Penn instead for downtown. Penn is better if you're going to Midtown.
If you need to change in Jamaica then that will extend your commute, look at express trains. Can you get to Atlantic ave without switching?
There are trains that go directly to Atlantic Terminal. For example in the AM there's the 6:56, 7:08, 7:33, 7:37, 7:57, and 8:19 that go directly there. And only the 7:37 stops in Westbury, just to give an example of how much train service in Westbury sucks. I think thats the only train Wastebury gets directly to Atlantic in the AM rush!
Also I believe "transfer at Jamaica" usually means the next train across the platform. What I'm curious about is how reliable the bus service is down 107 in the rush hour.

OP did not mention bus service, or do you mean for yourself?
The problem with the change at Jamaica is it adds time to the total commute and if one train is late it add a lot of time.

NICE isn't reliable, period, I wouldn't rely on them to catch your train at Hicksville. Now if it was still MTA LI Bus it would be a different story, but NICE has much lower standards for maintanance and driver training, so dont count on the bus showing up. Its a big reason why ridership has been reported to be just over half of what it was when MTA LI Bus was around in 2011.
What's left on the buses are the dregs of society with no other choices.
