Yeah but 9 times out of 10 you would have been winning over the winter months with that lock in before winter. Its like the stock market anymore.

The other rule of thumb was to negotiate when people weren't buying oil during the summer months. There goes that theory.

It's frustrating but not too bad just yet. I figure the 1st tank promo was $3.33 and that was at or better than COD at the time. My 2nd tank was $3.29 when COD was $2.75. 3rd party service contract is $325 but Pee-tro is $0 and the service was top notch. So I'm hanging around happy and more than 1/2 way through the contract. Of course with each fill up to come I will cringe. And when it comes time to re-up with these "business model challenged" dopes, that should be fun. Mostly funny that these companies force disloyalty by gouging the sh*t out of a happy customer and sending them off instead of retaining them. We'll see.

Slomins charges a 175 fee to relock. Most places do. Just relock if it falls more

For someone with a very old (circa 1960s-70s) system that they can't afford to replace, the critical factor becomes the service contract cost and what it does and doesn't cover.

My system is ancient (from the 60s) and I was intending to replace it last year but Stuff Happened and now there's not only no way I can afford to upgrade BUT I will have to sell the house within the next couple of years. So my only option is to keep what I've got. We're talking "can't get parts for it anymore" ancient, LOL. My current contract with Franks covers the boiler/burner/expansion tank and the aquabooster, for $99/yr. Yes I'm one of those who renewed in Sept at $3.29 and now I wish I'd waited but I didn't want to even go into the START of a heating season without a service contract in place. I had a few independent oil service guys come and look at it but all of them refused to cover the system because of its age. It would be nice to be able to get COD oil prices but my bigger financial concern is keeping the old equipment running at minimal expense, LOL

^^ So you have a original boiler that is 44 years old??

That's next to impossible. I guess it was tack welded or patched at one point in time?

Learned the hard way.. When you cancel Auto delivery with your supplier your service contract is null and void even if you payed for it.. Thought I would go the COD route.. 3 days after I verbally cancel my contract and send an e-mail to cancel I have a water leak. I had to call a plumber and $250 later to replace my expansion tank and relief valve. Next time I will think twice..
I had 6 months remaining on my service plan but as soon as you stop auto delivery it cancels your service plan coverage. I read my pricing agreement and that is what it states..
Also it is next to impossible to time the market 6 months ago on CNBC analyst were saying oil was going to $150 per barrel.. I guess locking in a price is a lot like the stock market some years you win and some years you lose... I wish I held off on sending in that cancellation letter.. What luck..

You can do COD no service plan
But if you have my luck get a service plan.
3 days after I cancel auto delivery I have a water
leak I had to pay for. I voided my service plan
as of 11/30 when I cancelled my account.
If you have newer equipment might be worth the
gamble..
