Hi, i am looking for some advice on a few areas on long island. I'm currently living in floral park village but taxes are just way too high. We have been looking all over and I feel like I'm going crazy. We have looked in north bellmore, east meadow, wantagh, and then all the way in Glen cove. I'm so confused. I'm looking to stay under $450,000 and I don't mind of it needs some work. I'm also looking for taxes under $10,000. The most important things are the schools and safety. We have young children and schools are important. Does anyone have any insight on these areas and can offer some advice? I would appreciate not receiving sarcastic answers, just real advice. Thank you so much

I would start with the south shore: Massapequa, wantagh, seaford, bellmore etc. all are good areas with good schools and 450 you should find something decent. The taxes though will be tough to get below 10k, not impossible but tough, and even if you find a place lower than 10 it will shoot up above that in no time.

Thank you for your response! I'll keep looking, my taxes here just went up over $14,000 and it's just ridiculous. I feel so confused! I don't want to end up with these taxes again

Here's what you do. Go to the LIMLS..........and search the towns you're interested in. You'll see the taxes listed.

Then figure at least a 3% increase every year.

$14K in Floral Park? Whoa!!!!!!!

I've heard the schools are decent there but have heard mixed stuff about the area, (probably just dependes what part of town you live in like most places). But I am certainly no authority on the area hopefully someone who knows more can chime in. Under 14k is certainly doable in the areas I suggested, make sure you get your star exemption and grieve ever year!

Thank you so much... The problem where I am now is that it's am incorporated village so that's an extra $4500 in taxes. I love it here but it's just getting to be a bit too much... especially for having such small property. I'll try that website, thanks!

"Both East Meadow High School and W. T. Clarke High School have been named two of the best high schools in the nation, ranking No. 233 and 317, respectively, on Newsweek’s 2014 list of America’s Top High Schools.

More than 14,000 schools nationwide were considered in the annual ranking.

The prestigious ranking places both high schools in the top 2 percent nationally. In addition, the East Meadow School District’s high schools are also two of only eight Nassau County schools to make the top 500 list."

East Meadow has some nice parts (Barnum Woods) and some average parts.... like most town on LI.

Thank you so much for this information! It's good to know this, even though my kids are only 4, I worry about the HS's.

I was looking into the Salisbury area, which I know Clarke is zoned for. Does anyone know about that specific area? I've read some forums on here that say it's next to one of the worst areas of LI. I don't know the area well enough to have an opinion on that.
