You'll either need a mooring which is very inconvenient, join the yacht club and again have a mooring or keep your boat in one of the few marina's that have slips and plan to pay around $5K per season there.

In Babylon you can get a village slip for anywhere from $400 - $650 for the season if you are a village resident. Boating on the south shore/Babylon area also provides way more options for things to do over the north shore/Northport....but boating is much more hectic on the south shore, which is a draw back to most.

How long is the waiting list for a village slip?

How many more options are there on the south shore? From what I recall, it was hectic, as you've mentioned.

If you are a village resident you get first dibs at the slips, and there usually isn't a waiting list if you go down to village hall early in the Spring and get yourself set. Non-village residents have a waiting list, but there are also private marina's that you can rent slips at for generally $100 a foot and you can also sometimes find people renting out bulkhead space behind their houses, although that's not as prevalent in BV as in some other south shore towns, ie. West Babylon or Lindenhurst.

As far as the options down here, you have Fire Island, which is like taking your boat to a min-vacation, as well as plenty of boat up restaurants lining the whole shore, not only in Babylon but in neighboring towns and even if you go further east. You have coves that back up to the ocean and you can go across Ocean Pkwy to the ocean beaches, you have ocean beaches such as Cedar or Gilgo that you can dock right up to and go to the ocean beaches and the restaurants at them. You have plenty of shallow areas where you can hop over and clam (if licensed, which is only $5), you can drop a crab pot anywhere you want or go out crabbing at night with lights and have yourself a feast. You have fishing in both the bay and have the ocean available as well for bigger fishing.

I grew up on the North Shore and on the Sound and while I do love it, it doesn't beat the GSB/ocean for me. There is little to do once out on your boat, there are some coves and maybe some beaches you could anchor at, but they are rocky north shore beaches and as long as I lived there I always hated those rocky beaches. When you're out in the Sound you are just out in the middle of nowhere and while the fishing can be and is good (if you know what you're doing)....my family uses our boat for a lot more in addition to fishing.

The GSB is more hectic, but it's just due to it being smaller and more people having access to it, but I've found it's really only the July and August weekends that you get the people that are out there and have no business being there or just more people in general. April-June is great and Sept-Dec is great.

Again, I don't know if any of this makes any difference to the OP, but I am just answering the question above and maybe it will be useful to someone else in the future.

We've been here in BV for just over a year and the schools are great, the village is very nice and the people are all very nice. Wen we moved here everyone I met would say "welcome to the village". It is a very community oriented feel and people take pride in it and keep it the way everyone here wants it to be, clean and friendly. At Christmas your family can get their own light pole to decorate for the holiday and there are always things for the kids to do year round.

I do not know too too much about babylon but northport has history with the occult and it has caused murders like with Ricky Kelso in the Aztecca Woods in northport. People on here and other people have said that the students there still do many many drugs and that there is satin worship there. People hold occult meetups there Occult Meetups in Northport - Meetup

Northport is near mt. misery that is a place famous for negativity and paranormal. Both places are located in suffolk county, ny and it is a place that is known where many things can happen.

Anyone who says Northport is near Mt. Misery is obviously not familiar with the area.

Yeah that's about the most ridiculous post I've ever seen. That was a few kids like 30 years ago that were high on Acid and PCP and screwing around in the woods. That's like saying L.A. causes murders because Charlie Manson murdered some people there in 1969 or a certain town causes car accidents because there was a bad one there 15 years ago.
