I am considering going out to Adelphi Univ twice a year to take a day long class on a Saturday for my professional license
the classes are given at 154 Cambridge Ave at Adelphi
ive never been to LI much except for Jones Beach
i would be coming from the Cr Island Pkwy south and taking the Jamaica Ave exit and continuing on Jericho Tpke which is a good straight line drive with few turns, it seems
about how many miles is Adelphi from the Cr Island and are there places on the route to stop in for coffee or breakfast?
I don't know the mileage from Cross Island but it's maybe a 15 minute ride from there. Plenty of places to stop and get something to eat, in fact on Nassau Boulevard not far from the the university is a deli called Adelphi Deli. It's not exactly the wilderness out there
rlrl, are you driving from Manhattan or Queens? That route would not be my first choice to get to Adelphi.
You can also take the LIRR. It stops nearby and the walk is probably about a half or 3/4 of mile to the campus. Many people go there via LIRR. Give the campus a call and find out about the parking situation. Adelphi always had limited visitor parking and I know you said that you were going on Saturdays when the campus is emptier, but until they finish builidng that new building, parking is really restrictive. You can't just park in any old spot.
There are about a megzillion places to stop for coffee and whatnot. It's more like Queens than the country. Jericho near the Cross Island is not pretty and you'll be hitting lights all the way.
If so, the best way to get to Adelphi is to get on the LIE East from CIP South. Then get off Exit 34 - New Hyde Park Road, and then turn left onto Marcus Ave after a mile or so. Marcus Ave splits off into Nassau Blvd between Hillside Ave and Jericho Tpke. Then just follow Nassau Blvd down through Garden City and turn left at South Ave or Cambridge Ave.

id be coming from Riverdale The Bronx and probably taking the Throgs Neck. then to the Cr Island
I like the Jamaica/jericho route better as it seems to have less turns. the exit 34 route probably is less mileage but for a first time drive i would want the straight line jamaica/jericho route. im great at directions but for a first time trip in an unfamilar area i like a straight line route without a lot of turns. i don't even use a GPS
like i say i would have to make this trip twice a year for 3 years so maybe on subsequent trips i would use exit 34
these trips would be on Saturday mornings classes from 9-4. LIRR would be out since im in Riverdale. if it weren't for my car i wouldn't even have chose Adelphi
The route Pinuzzo describes is actually simpler because you will have an easier time finding those roads. If you plan on taking Jericho to Nassau Blvd you are going to have to mind the pedestrians, cars turning into and off of Jericho, all the lights (it's a lot of lights)..all the while looking for Nassau Blvd. If you are coming from the north and not familiar with the area his way is actually easier.
If you plan on cutting through Floral Park, it's best to go your way. Not sure what your plan is.
not sure either as i am not familiar with that area. after jericho where would i go? there appears to be a straight line road that leads right onto campus. is that Garden Avenue? ill have to look at the map again or maybe even buy a paper Nassau map.
