I am going to be working for Belmont Race Track in Elmont and Aqueduct Race Track near JFK and need to move soon. I start work Jan 16! I don't know much about the area and was hoping for some advice on areas to live. I had been looking at an apt place in Hempstead (152 Clinton St) that was like $1,200/month but then read some stuff on here about how bad that area was. Is it really bad?

I'm single, but would like to live in a nice, safe area with parking for my car and not too bad of a commute to work. I am looking to spend about $1,200 - $1,400 per month on a 1 bedroom. Some areas I've thought about are Hempstead, Floral Park, Elmont, Garden City, and then some of the Queens areas like Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Rego Park, Astoria, etc...

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What section of Hempstead are we talking about? Very close to GC? I would not rent in Hempstead to be honest.

A lot of the trainers who work at Belmont live in Floral Park. Very safe, and you can rent an apt there, usually with one car parking. I would chose LI over Queens anyday. Less congested, guaranteed parking spot esp.

Or I would even suggest Franklin Square.

I think Garden City, Astoria, Forest Hills might be tough to get for $1200 per month. I think Franklin Sq would be a good choice. Also, New Hyde Park, maybe Great Neck?

I'm heading up there tomorrow and have a realtor that is going to show me some places in Floral Park. Sounds like that would be a pretty good option?

Where are you from originally? And if you don't mind me asking, what agency is the realtor with?

Feel free to send me a private message if you prefer.

The apartments at that address are low rise early 50s brick models on the corner of Clinton and Hempstead Turnpike. It's not the worst part of Hempstead, which is really a walk in the park compared to Killadelphia, but I'd like to think you could do a lot better for $1,200 a month.
