is there any way I can test my water?

It smells like a pool when I shower, and my skin is dry and I am sick

What do you want to test it for? When I lived on LI my water always smelled like chlorine, that is how they treat it. If you don't like it, move. You think you are going to get them to stop treating the water the way they do?

Home Depot has a free water test.

Pick up the kit at the store. It comes with a small vial that you fill and send to Home Depot - free postage.

The kits were on a rack by the exit.

I picked up 2 kits.

I will send one in with tap water, the other I will fill with bottled water - just to see if there is a difference.

Our water (Nassau County) never smelled like chlorine.

Please keep us updated on the results. Somehow it does not seem cost effective for HD to be giving kits away and the results coming back with nothing at all for HD to sell you to improve the quality of the water. Of course, that said taste is subjective and therin lies the key to HD's marketing strategy.

Call your water district and ask for a copy of the latest water test results. They have to do them per Nassau County regs.

We have an Aquasana whole-house water filter. Takes out all the garbage including that awful chlorine. The filter is changed every 3 months by us. Now we're spoiled rotten.

How much did that cost to install??? I assume all water in your house is filtered including for the shower and washing clothes?? We would like to do this as well, thanks.

We think it was around $1500 including the filter and the plumbing installation. We have it for all the sinks in the house as well as the shower, but didn't bother with the washing machine.

There's a water store on New York Avenue in Huntington - that's where it was purchased almost 5 years ago.

Thanks, that price seems reasonable but I am sure it might be a bit more.
