Sewer systems in parts of the Town of Islip for example, are connected to nearby sumps. Finding a sump is a good way to determine if there is a sewer/street drain nearby. And then you can check on street view.
Good luck.
That's an interesting point. The OP should clarify what he/she means by sewers.
My parents' neighborhood in Suffolk has storm drains in the street which lead to sumps but they have a cesspool in their yard connected to the house plumbing.
Does the OP want to avoid a cesspool?
Or want "city water" instead of well water?
Or just want adequate storm drainage?
Apologies for the lack of clarity, would like to avoid cesspools/septic tanks.
Somebody mentioned Mineola, which I think is a great idea. How is that town broken down by neighborhoods? What's considered the best part of town?
The Park section is lovely as is the Boulevard section. Any block between Willis Avenue and Mineola Blvd between Hillside and Jericho. Essentially Mineola is pretty good but those blocks in particular have more property. Price may be a problem however, in this section. Williston Park is also a great community, with many MOTT colonials, not center halls for the most part. Albertson is a great community but mostly capes.
Nick, if you are set on your kids going to private schools, why not Malverne? The only issue with Malverne, as I understand, is its public school system which is not relevant to you? The homes seem beautiful, well-maintained, and it has a cute downtown with butcher, baker, movie theater, it feels like living in the 1960's, so cute!
From what I've read, the Malverne schools are far worse than West Hempstead or even Bay Shore. My concern with Malverne is that I won't be able to get out of a house at the price I pay if necessary. Any credence to this?
I went to a lousy public school so frankly I'm indifferent as to schools other than for financial sensibilities.
Apologies for the lack of clarity, would like to avoid cesspools/septic tanks.

They are very common on Long Island and normally require no treatment or maintenance. Why would you turn your back on such a large percentage of available houses?
Think of how a cesspool or septic system works, they all require a size able leach field where liquids are pushed out. If you have acres fine not an issue, but if you have lines of houses on 8,000 sq foot lots, effectively the entirety of the area is a leach field. Everyone can do what they want but not for me.
