I didn't turn it down as much as usual last night, so I was okay when I woke up - just took longer than usual to get up to 68. I was afraid with the wind, we might lose power. I kept thermostat at 65 instead of 63 at night.

64 at night is reasonable for some people. In nyc, I believe 55 is the minimum for rentals at night

My thermo is set to 60 at night and was when I lived on LI. The heat registers are also shut off in the bedroom. I have to have it cold to sleep. I sleep with a sheet and light blanket. DH sleeps with a sheet, blanket and a down comforter. It is all what you get used to. When I was a kid, ions ago, (not an infant), the pediatrician told my mom to keep the room on the colder side, it was healthier for you. So that is what I am used to.

First floor had some walls opened up, but they are not new inside and neither is the insulation. We also have older Andersen windows on the first floor. Rest of the house is new. Boiler/water heater too.

BTW, we set it to 64 at night for bedrooms and have humidifiers on so it feels quite warm. First floor is kept at 61 at night. Going up 6 degrees to 67F after we woke up took so many hours, but it finally reached it this afternoon.

I usually sleep with it set at 61, but figured with it being so cold I'd try to keep the house warm. It's too stuffy when the heat comes on. And it has nothing to do with being cheap.

The radiator in the kitchen is in the wall in a bow window and when I took the cover off to bleed it I could feel cold breezes coming through the floorboard. Stuffed some air conditioner insulation wherever I could. Hopefully that helps a little bit.

What are they out doing dressed in their windbreakers? Walking up and down for blocks and blocks looking at the abandoned houses with "For Sale" signs on them all over the place?

I had mine on 72 and it was 67 in the house, it felt a little cooler than usual but it wasn't cold. I still felt warm. If my house was insulated better and I did not have drafty windows I could probably keep the heat on 68. That's a project we need to do in the next year.
