As smash255 pointed out, there are times when there is not enough room on the road to "avoid" the suspect puddles (or even visible potholes) if there is oncoming traffic for instance - especially on local narrow roads. Sometimes the only thing left to do is pray and slow down :-)
Very true. I was surrounded by buses on Long Beach Road today and could not avoid them.
when I'm driving, I certainly notice these 'puddles'...and do you know what I assume? That they're potholes filled with water, and I avoid them. Are you someone who just assumes they're safe? Genius?
Unfortunately the rest of us have to drive on roads with other vehicles and those silly lines painted on the pavement which prohibits us from swerving all over the road. The next time you drive somewhere besides your driveway you'll see what I mean.

Once again, one of the worlds best drivers surfaces on the LICD forum. First there was LIMA, now we have the Floridian. What's next? Someone from Jersey?
There are some really bad ones on the side streets near my house. One of them is unavoidable, as one of them is in the middle of the street and stretches the length of the street where there is a dip in the road.

I wonder how they would feel if someone served to get around a pothole and crash into them as a result...
I don't get it...how are you people hitting these potholes? You see them, you avoid them, easy solution. If you don't see them, you're not paying close enough attention.
Sure, a crater on an exit ramp off the parkway in the dark. Even with your magical serpentine awareness, where exactly do you go to avoid them? Drive off the road?! People can't see black ice or potholes at night and many are unavoidable even during the day. It's about damaged roads, not "paying attention."
The state has been doing a decent job on their roads. The problem is the county and towns. I have a feeling they are waiting until it stops doing the freeze and thaw thing before fixing them.
Sunrise highway is pretty bad and that's a state road.
northern state isn't as bad as last year at least, which doesn't make sense. Most of what I've seen are avoidable. If you're driving in congestion, the car in front of you would've given you a hint. If you've gotten 2 or 3 damaged wheels then I don't know what else to tell you.

It seems that the state is working on other roads first. I saw them on the lie and the northern.
