Can anyone suggest a great home engineer? I'd like an engineer versus inspector, as there are some questionable areas in the home where I think an engineer would be in a better position to help.

Also, the real estate agent selling the home is acting as a dual agent. He asked me for my inspector's name and contact info so that he can call engineer to confirm the inspection time. I thought that was odd. I've never been asked for contact info from the agent so that the agent could call. Any thoughts on this?

Not odd at all. That is almost always part of their job.

Arthur Tauscher was in Rockville Centre since the fifties, they were among the original engineers doing home buyer's inspections. The company is now in Baldwin and is called Criterium.

Aren't you going to be there at the inspection also? Tell the agent you will make sure of the appointment yourself.

Mark Soroka in Woodmere or Rich Collett of Kings Bay inspections, both are terrific.

Paid $1,000 for inspection today. Agent told us the house was completely CO'd and that he had all CO's from owner. Found out today he was lying. So approx 2k sq ft are not CO'd. We aren't going to buy the house because taxes will double AND we have to worry about the home passing inspection to get CO's in place. Can we get inspection fee reimbursed from the agency considering we had it conducted based on the agent lying to us about those CO's??? We are irate, to say the least.

No idea if you can get reimbursement, but word to the wise, when you're told there are COs, ask for proof.

$1,000 for an inspection? That's awfully high IMHO, unless it's a huge home.

If you have the agent's statement about the COs in writing, you could contract the Broker/Manager and file a complaint - see where it takes you. Without anything in writing, including email or text, it'll be "he said/she'said"
