Besides Hither Hills on LI, does anyone have any tips for a hassle free, primitive tent camping spot on water in NY from as far south as LI to central NY (Catskills, Sullivan, Putnam, Ulster counties)? Preferably off Rte 17 in Sullivan (between Middletown and Roscoe, maybe). Just a tent site w/ few to no amenities but easy access, fishing and moderate but nice hiking trails. Just tossing it out there. Sure it should go in other forums but I'm starting here asking neighbors. Thanks.
No offense, but if it has a pool, rv hookups or laundry facilities, it's not what I'm looking for....unless it also meets the descriptions above. Thanks again.
woodland valley state campsite near Phoenicia. Five miles off route 28 . It's on a branch of the Esopus Creek. Trailheads to Slide/Cornell/Wittenborg mountains can be found right by the entrance.
Unfortunately the campsite has been discovered by the young professional urbanites with their Patogonia gear, so get up there before the summer invasion.
Try the Catskills preserve from sundown tru big Indian ny stateland
Also near the center is the frost valley YMCA that offers different types of camping check out their website Another state camp ground is Mongaup Pond near Livingston Manner check their website
