It's not fair to expect people from other regions to, all of the sudden, be liberal in thought and politics. There's life outside this Long Island bubble. And it's just so absurd to expect everyone in this country to fall in line and adhere to NE liberal mindset. Being liberal means accepting that people do not all think alike, and supporting their right to believe whatever they wish. Nowadays, liberals are okay with Freedom of Speech as long as those speaking are 100% PC.

One can have liberal political views or liberal economic views and be a racist too. Have you heard? The schools in the south are desegregated.

West Hempstead is the obvious answer. West Hempstead is Orthodox and inexpensive.

This is a pretty ridiculous comment. You appear to not even understand the term "racist".

Does "love being a mommy" want to live in areas with other kiddies? I'm betting yes. You must be a racist or bigot!

Everyone has preferences in neighbors. There is nothing wrong with a Christian or Jewish (or whatever) person wanting to be around people of the same faith, just like there's nothing wrong with mommies with kids wanting to be around other mommies with kids.

But it's someone's right to be a racist. Your southern comment doesn't apply, but the sarcasm only speaks volumes about the obnoxious behavior that the rest of the country knows the NE for.

You need to re read my comment. I was defending her right to want to live where she wants.

All I did is post what I think caused them to receive negative posts, its their words and I didn't judge.

I wasn't attacking you. I was making a general comment. Sorry if it came across that way.

The quote you pulled from her comment is exactly what people on LI need to understand. There are plenty of areas where discussing race, sexual orientation, etc, is not some hush hush type of discussion. Clearly, this woman feels comfortable discussing it. She did so in a polite way. And we (not saying you, VAYankee) need to respect her right to live where she feels comfortable.

It's all good, a recent editorial in our local paper was from a recent transfer from Long Island. He was expressing his views how diverse his Richmond community is even though it's thought too be segregated. He went on to say that he found LI to be the most segregate place he has ever lived, he may be right. He didn't identify where on the island he had moved from.

The problem that appears frequently in postings is those expounding to be Christians are looking for locations that exclude specific groups which they name. Other groups such as this posting are just asking for neighborhoods which have a significant/not exclusive presence of a certain group.

I wholeheartedly agree with the LIer's comment. When we had considered moving down south, my first thought was how much more integrated the communities were and how much better the communication was. LI is a vacuum.
