I don't know what your budget is, but based on the description of your job location, the Salem Ridge area may be a good fit. Large properties, Harborfields SD and close to both Greenlawn Village and downtown Huntington.

Be aware that RE taxes on Long Island are high, so that's something to take into consideration when looking at affordability. I suggest talking to a good loan officer before you fall in love with any location only to discover that the RE taxes make it impossible .

RE taxes = real estate which includes school and general (town) taxes. Property taxes.

Hey at least we don't have personal property tax for owning cars like some other states.

I agree with Elke - stick with the Greenlawn area and Harborfields schools. I would skip Commack - why go farther away, and the areas mentioned have a much nicer feel.

What's your budget for purchase price and real estate taxes (they're high on Long Island)?

Head for Harborfields SD. It's where people tend to go when they cannot quite afford CSH SD. Northport is great, too, but you sound like you want to stay close to Huntington. You'll find some choice homes in your range. Taxes may be a bit higher for some homes, but purchase price will be lower. Good luck!
