From Bushwick Brooklyn, we are looking to LI for the bigger home, yard and a white picket fence.
I have friends who live in Westbury, but I dont like the neighborhood too much. I looked at homes in Levittown, and dont like the house style and the fact that there is no basement.
I work in Great Neck (ins. broker), my son who is 1.5 years old goes to daycare in Queens, Flushing. My husband works on Wall Street for Blue Cross/Shield. I did look around Franklin Square and dont like that there is no train LIRR to help commute.
Our budget: 350k or 450k down payment full upfront. Hoping that we can find a home without a need for a mortgage. If we need a mortgage, maybe another 100k but thats realllllllly pushing it. I would like taxes to be under 11k. I want a 2 level house with a basement, a decent sized yard with an easier cmmunte to the city. I am looking in Malverne and Valley Stream. The schools are important but doesnt have to be in the top top school district. Can anyone give me their 2 cents about Malverne/Valley Stream??
Also if there are any other towns that you can suggest I can go explore that really would be great.
Any tips are greatly appreciated. Much thanks!!
You might also check out Mineola. Since you want to pay all cash, you may find some sellers more willing to work with you.
Maleverne has a lovely village area, but the LIRR from the Malverne station does not have frequent service and you end up changing trains at Valley Stream. Part of Malverne feeds into Valley Stream Schools, which are considered to be better than Malverne Schools. You may also be interested in the Westwood section of Valley Stream, which is very pretty, but the Westwood station is on the same line as Malverne, again with the poor train service. It would be better to drive to the VS station, if you can work out the parking situation. VS school dsitrict 13 and Valley Stream North (grades 7-12) seem to be pretty decent.
Do you plan to keep your son in Flushing for daycare?
