But I'd rather live in either NYC or Philadelphia, I hope I get the opportunity within the next few years.

But there are plenty of majority minority school districts where I would be comfortable sending my kids, since that's what you seem to be getting at. Definitely Baldwin UFSD, where I went to school.

Good for you, stick to your guns. And hope your kid doesn't get shot by one.

I lived part-time in Amityville Village for over a decade and really miss it. I plan on moving back soon. It's a lovely community, with a lot of fancy, older housing stock, a charming downtown area, its own police department, and a good location at the bottom of the Rt 110 corridor and along the LIRR Babylon branch. I'd argue it is one of the only areas in Suffolk County where you can get by without a car.

As previously mentioned, the only downside is the school district. Almost everyone who can afford it uses private school (it's not a matter of race, lots of black families use private school too).

I wonder if what happened to Bay Shore SD can happen to Amityville, with the community standing up and taking back their district from the inept administration.

The Village is wonderful with boutique type quaint stores. The North side is experiencing some major renovations right now. Luxury appointments are in the process of being built on Broadway and there is also a newer condo development on the same strip on Broadway/route 110.
