Hello,

We have two houses. We want to claim basic STAR on the new house. Currently, we have basic STAR on the old house. I understand that we need to renounce the benefit on the old house to claim STAR on the new house.

  • Is there a fee to renounce STAR on the old house (Town of Brookhaven)?
Thanks!

Do you still own the old house?

Apply for STAR on the new house and let them know that it is your new primary residence. You may have to bring/submit proof.
There should be no fee to eliminate STAR from the "old" house.

I don't put anything past ToB but even they don't do this.

Dont apply for new STAR at new house until after 10-1-2016 for obvious reasons.

If they miss the deadline, they'll be without STAR for an entire year
