Default Hampstead/Hempstead

Hampstead, England is a suburb of London. It is white and rich, and as part of a semi socialist nation, receives government subsidies for municipal, education and healthcare needs.
On the contrary, Hempstead is a predominantly black town on Long Island. It is not at all wealthy, and has a high crime rate compared to other towns and villages on Long Island. It's school system has been riddled with incompetence and corruption for decades, creating frequent state oversight, and hampering the education possibilities for it's youth. It is a classically familiar story here and abroad. White people get good educations, live in nice houses, get good jobs, live good lives. Not necessarily so for non whites. Education is paramount!!

The population here ^ includes Kings & Queens counties because they're located geographically 'on the island'. The Island of Manhattan is even smaller geographically.

When folks come to visit from out of state, I like to ask them what they'd like to do while here, because it is a lot from which to choose. If seeing Manhattan is desired, I like to give them an 'overview' so to speak. As in driving around first, or better yet, the 'touristy' types of cruises (yup I still like to do that & folks visiting just gives me a good excuse ).

Long Island is much bigger geographically but driving from one side of the Island to the other is completely doable. Even West to East but is 'Longer' (as the name describes).

lol did not notice that, thanks for pointing it out! Although it does seem to have been 'bumped' just yesterday.

Thanks for 'catching' particularly when I just thinking about going on & on about the proximity to Fire Island & how Kings County is Brooklyn.

Hey, you left some interesting info behind for someone else to read.

My daughter moved to LI last year, and I visited her in October. You guys have some great parks out there.

I've been posting about Hempstead for quite some time, no reason why it shouldn't be as successful as White Plains or even Jersey City

People must want it to stay like that.

Most cities in Westchester County have nice vibrant downtowns with tall office buildings, LI nah

Keep things the way they are so that the select few can get their pensions I guess.

This 6 year old thread was about the TOWN of Hempstead not the crumbling village.
