Has anyone done a recent oil to gas conversion in southern Suffolk County? I'm looking for any plumber recommendations as well as an idea of what to expect in the process i.e. Timeframe, costs, etc.

MY MIL did this last year and she used Universal. It cost her about $9,000 but she was oil heat and propane gas for stove. She also had to have a gas line run to her house, chimney liner put in, old oil tank drained and removed. She was very happy with the job and she got 0% finance for 1 year. She had quotes from Varsity plumbing but she was not happy with the salesman because she felt he was not knowledgeable enough. Not sure who else she received quotes from. Now I switched in 200 8 but I had oil/gas. Gas hot water / cooking and oil heat. My conversion was easy and cost me $3500 but the guy I used no longer does it.

I used Burner King 4 years ago, it costed me $5500 minus 600 rebate, for a net of $4900. The conversion included a new gas line from the street, chimney liner, old oil tank removed, new burner/boiler etc. One of my friends did the conversion 2 years ago with Burner King and got charged for $6000.

Burner King's sales technique is a bit pushy, you have to negotiate with them hard.

Wow you guys got cheap conversion costs...

I did mine last month oil to gas conversion, i got three estimates from $7800-10000 I needed to purchase my own gas burner for $2035 tax included, and I got a 860 dollar visa gift card.

I received 50 gallon water heater, abandoned old underground tank, new chimney liner, 2 thermastats, all permits filed by plumber, and the obvious remove old, install new. I got my first bill from national grid and it was $14.00, $12 dollars for delivery charge, and $2 for supply. I know its summer and its just hot water but its good~

I paid 7800 to convert from oil to gas (before 800 dollar rebate) so 7K after rebate.

- removing the oil tank
- old furnace

- installing the chimney liner
- installing new gas furnace
- installing new gas water heater (75 Gallon) (I picked this water heater rather than the energy efficient thing because if I lose power - I will still have HOT WATER)
- run piping for the stove
- run piping for a gas dryer

I used Wilco Mechanical - 631-921-8458 - Guys name is Chris - they were great and very professional.

Call them when you are ready for an estimate i guess.
