So now the County will cut $6 Million from Suffolk Transit's budget as well as $4 Million from SCAT (Suffolk County Accessible Transit). It is a game of chicken between Suffolk and the state, which will leave even more riders stranded. Even after this, Suffolk still subsidizes their system more than any other County in NY.
It really gets me miffed, the State keeps taking money from Long Island and then when it comes to what we get in return, its less and less. Andrew Cuomo has been one of the worst Governors for our area!

In NYS, there are only 2 voting blocks - NYC and upstate. Everywhere else that does not serve a purpose gets thrown under the bus. It's no surprise that Andrew Cuomo feels like one of the worst governors to Long Islanders. He launched a number of massive and expensive infrastructure projects like the LGA upgrade and the new Tappan Zee bridge. At the same time, there is a liberal NYC mayor breathing down his neck to fund social services like housing, schools etc. What that means is far less money for the suburbs. It will only get worse since Cuomo is looking to co-fund the Hudson tunnel and maybe an upgrade of the NYC subways. To put it simply, you are screwed. But maybe LIers bear some responsibility? I was dismayed that McArthur was not pitched as an alternative to the LGA project; though not surprising since many suburban homeowners will not appreciate having more planes flying so low over their homes.

I'm surprised Republic is getting the upgrade, and MacArthur is not. At this point just close the damn thing.
There are places in the US like that still, have you considered moving upstate or to another state where the cost of living is lower, the people are friendlier, and they aren't overrun with third-world immigrants?
We just came back from upstate. There is no public transit as everything is far apart and rural-like, but the rest of it he would love.

in our company we travel domestically quite frequently. Most of the people who live in Nassau County use LGA, while most of the Suffolk county people go to McArthur (usually going through BWI on Southwest). I swear there are people who live in Nassau who would never even consider McArthur. It's not a Long Island airport, it's more like a Suffolk County airport.

In the time I've lived in Suffolk - which mind you is not long, but I've flown a lot - I've not once used MacArthur Airport. I've checked! I check there first every time, and it's not so much about transferring flights, but it's the super high fares and layover times since it's never a direct connection. Most of the time the ticket is over $600, and there are often either two layovers or one multi-hour long layover.
Honestly in my opinion that place is dead, and if nobody's going to step in and do anything to give it a revival jolt (and that's not going to happen, Albany and Washington couldn't give a **** about Long Island), it should just be decommissioned and closed.
