Would anyone happen to know if you need a permit to remove 2 trees in the front of your yard in the Town of Oyster Bay? Its on our actual property (not the little strip of grass between sidewalk and the street). The previous owners planted it way too close to the house and it's kind of overgrown so the branches are scraping against the siding and front windows of the house. I tried to look it up on the Town's website but the verbiage is confusing. Thank you in advance for any input.
Personally I think that a permit should be required. I've seen many old, beautiful trees, especially Pitch Pines, being cut down esp in the Bethpage area. These are historically significant as the eastern part of Nassau was once Pine Barrens. If the branches are scraping against the house they can be removed...no need to remove the whole tree.
However if it looks like the tree could fall and be a threat obviously it needs to be removed. I just have a problem with people who buy homes and then decide to cut down all the trees for no legitimate reason!
Please don't cut down the whole tree. Just remove the branches/limbs that are too close to the house.
It's just not the branches.........it's the root system. Those root systems can do more non-storm damage than you can imagine.
