Close to bidding at a brick colonial in the Manhasset area. It had been painted white and then the current owner got it partially stripped for a distressed look. We would definitely prefer to get back to the original brick look. Does anybody have first hand experience getting a paint stripping job done? From what I have read, sandblasting seems a bit scary of a solution. Would also appreciate any names of professionals well versed with this. Thanks!
We undertook this project years ago. Our guys sandblasted. It was a disaster. Then they finally used chemicals. It never looked right. Thousands of dollars and 16 years later, I can say that you're better off re painting. But to each his own.
Thanks all. I'm getting a quote of ~$10K using Peel Away or Enviro Strip. Although it is a high number, it makes sense IF the chemical peeling will indeed restore it close to original. The painter is obviously saying yes....but don't know how to handicap that.

The mansion at 1009 5th Ave was stripped of it's old paint using chemicals....perhaps you can take a walk by to inspect the brick.
Mechanical.
Go to Home Depot, pick up a couple of 4" grinders with wire cup wheels.
Go out to parking lot and pick a few hard working individuals who are just trying to live the American dream.
Sit in your lawn chair and watch the paint disappear.
ocngypz, in the city? That seems to be a limestone building.
Yes.....Manhattan........look up..........she's brick and limestone.
