Maybe there are differences from location to location?
I recall being in a Lindy's cab a while ago. Didn't think the junker was going to make it. Most of my recent experience has been with LI Yellow Cab. Cars ride like they are falling apart. Drivers look like homeless people (and make me glad my life insurance policy is in effect). Both usually have an unpleasant odor.
Most of my cab experience has been in Manhattan. That may have set my standards too high. The worst cab I have ridden in NYC has been better than the best cab I have ridden on LI.
Someone mentioned a cab to the airport. With the rates the local cabs charge, wouldn't it be better to either a) get a shared ride service for less money or b) pay about the same or a little more and get a town car?
My experience with Lindys has only been with Miller Place (I believe that's where it's stationed) location.
To from the train station in a pinch. A good idea to use a cab if you are bar hopping, but on LI I would think most people smart enough to do that are probably paying the premium to use a real car service.
Cabs on LI are disgusting. "Stick to the seats" kind of disgusting. They make LI bus service look like luxury accommodations.
so true I have used the buses and the cabs you do NOT make NICE look like a limo!!! One thing I noticed is that many aren't aware that most NICE buses are timed with many LIRR trains is the poor peak or evening service the limiting factor for bus service?
I agree. I can't understand why LI Taxi smells like cigs & use beaten up old cars. Its disgusting
If that is the case then why don't people use the bus? it's cheaper and in most cases timed with trains. If the cabs are so bad. Is service hour span the true issue or abysmal coverage of residential areas?

Because bus service on LI is unreliable (most buses in Suffolk run 1x/hour if you're lucky). Also in Suffolk, there is no bus service at night.
Lindy's Taxi has to be the worst taxi service going! I used them a few times but will never use them again. Dirty cars, nasty drivers, and will try to jam as many people as possible in the car and not give any discount for being forced to share the cab.

Because some people need local rides that don't fall within scope of bussing.

as noted, its unreliable & doesn't always go where I want. I probably took LI cabs probably 3x in 10 years. It was awful.
