So fellow Long Islanders, what is your favorite non-everyday off the beaten path Holiday song? Not that I have anything against Rudolph, Silent Night, etc. but I especially enjoy the more abstract, soulful, unique pieces that do not get played quite as often.
One of mine is Chrissy Hynde of the Pretenders singing 2000 miles. Although I hear Chrissy did not actually write or intend this to become a Christmas song. Still one of my favorites, here is Chrissy doing a live version of it back in 1995...
Yes, this an Avant-Garde classic. The Kinks where classified as a "Proto-Punk" band, a close Long Island area American counterpart of them would be the Ramones, which where more clearly a "Punk" band. The music video of their song "Merry Christmas" (I don't want to fight tonight) actually mentions Mineola.
