If you're dumb enough to do it outside, common sense would tell you that neighbors can smell it. It's not only extremely annoying, it's illegal. I am not obligated to tolerate illegal and extremely annoying behaviors that directly affect me on my own property. Maybe the criminal smoker should employ consideration and responsibility.

I have a neighbor like that, but ever since he and his wife started babysitting their infant granddaughter 5-6 days a week, he stopped. He used to smoke pot when he walked his dog and I swear that dog looked as stoned as the neighbor.

It's actually not really illegal...it's considered "decriminalized" in New York state. I think if he was selling it then he could get in trouble for it though but don't quote me on that though..

It's funny how strongly it varies by state because if this scenario was happening in Pennsylvania or in down south then you could get your neighbor arrested and he'll be looking at ALOT of time in prison! He'll be at high risk for getting attacked and anally-passed around by murderers and rapists for this.

That means it's a gray area in NYS. Nice that politicians can appear to succeed in pleasing both sides of the argument.

I'm conflicted about this. My neighbor occasionally smokes in his house. Houses are very close together here, so I can sometimes smell it. I think the stuff should be totally legal, so I need to be consistent! He never does it outside and is otherwise quiet. I let it go. I much prefer it to the acrid smell of cigarette smoke.

I'd rather enjoy the sweet skunky scent of my neighbor's kush wafting in the air than the choking acrid stink of someone's woodburning stove.

You can smell it outside or you're in one of those Stewart Manor duplexes where you share a wall?

SM is a nice town but I'm not sure I would describe it as upper middle class.

Maybe he's from the city? I know of people from decent parts of the city who would swear on their life that even Elmont and Valley Stream are upper middle class areas; they think all Long Islanders are aristocrats lol. Maybe that's why they're coming out here to do their bank robberies? But somebody from Kings Point may think of everything south of the Northern State Pkwy as a complete garbage dump. It's all a matter of what you're used to. I've never been to Stewart Manor so I can't speak on this particular town.

It smells like perspiring armpits to me. When I went up to the Westchester/Putnam border, I swore I smelt weed all over the place but the local told me that the smell was actually coming from skunks.

It's an acquired taste/scent; kinda like how alcohol or coffee tastes like crap to most people in the beginning.
