Hi All,

My husband and I are looking to rent a 1-bedroom apartment within walking distance to LIRR. He works in Stony Brook and my office is close to Penn, so we are considering somewhere that would be convenient for us both. If someone could provide suggestions/links, we would really appreciate it.

Here are some details/requests:

-walking distance to a reliable LIRR station
-within a 45-min driving distance to Stony Brook
-we are young couples looking for a relatively safe neighborhood
-budget: under $2300 for a 1-bedroom; preferably newer developments

We learned that the neighborhoods around Wyandanch and Huntington Station are not so safe. Should we still consider?

Farmingdale is a bit over our budget, but we're looking into it. Is there anywhere else we should consider?

Thanks a lot!

I would not rule out the apartments in Huntington Station.

Islip. Decent train line, walkable downtown area, about 30 min to SB. Safe.

I really like what they are doing with the newer developments in Farmingdale, however the brand new buildings are a bit on the high side price wise.

Islip LIRR is long and infrequent and nearly always requires a transfer. Might as well just live in Stony Brook itself.

Every time i find myself in Farmingdale, it's nicer than it was the last time. It's a great downtown. That would be a good choice if you can afford it.

Are there any apartments in Babylon Village?
