Inwood Country Club purports to be affordable. It has the benefit of having its own beach club (with a pool), too. I haven't seriously looked into it though since I'm only interested in beach and pool for now, so I went with one of those. But it may be worth a look for you.
Hempstead golf and country club though I am not sure what the membership rate is. My dad used to belong years ago in the 80's and at that time it was $4,000 a year.

Pretty sure it's not that anymore. We have friends that belong. Nice club.

Super nice., plus Lawrence Yacht and Tennis Club has a beach club.
The access to a private beach club, pool, tennis courts plus place to park your Yacht who has time for golf.
Middle Bay is still private. They just let folks pay for a fee without joining. You can still buy a membership and play for free.
