Hello fellow L.I. CD Posters...

Is it me or are we the downstate version of the Buffalo area Snowbelt? It seems every time it snows you hear the forecaster announce: "More On The Island"..."Suffolk County to See The Most"...."East End To Get Hit The Hardest"...etc... Sometimes it seems to play like a broken record (scratched CD, File Corrupted I-Pod... depending on your generation).

I think the last round had the Ski Resorts jealous because we got it all....

Anyone that complains about this winter is nuts. That being said North Shore usually gets the worst of winter.

Hey, last time Brooklyn got three feet, and youse "only" got two feet...

How much did ya's get so far this time?

I can't gloat though- It would seem that I didn't move far enough south, as we even got a foot of snow when youse got that two feet (But ours melted in 2 days!)- So far, in the 14 years I've lived here, I've had to shovel snow THREE times!!!

Last year it snowed every day, like a foot, from late January through March.
This winter so far has been a joke.
Thank god for global warming. Hopefully I'll live long enough to see Palm trees and gators on the island. I hate snow.

Oh, but GW creates a new phenomenon, now on the south shore at least the tides come up and flood the streets along WITH a blizzard, then the whole mess freezes solid overnight. A coping mechanism might be to dream about possible palm trees down the pike...

I love it when people from purported more rugged areas of the country (or world for that matter) think Long Islanders are a bunch of soft city/suburban folk. Let's see THEM cope with the tides, taxes, traffic, heat and humidity, snowfalls, hurricanes, etc...

But it's a nice place for all of us (at least for those of us still here) and we take the good with the bad I suppose... Not wholly complaining and only PARTLY nuts...

When I was a kid, my bro-in-law worked for Grumman, and said that palm trees would be growing on the Island by the 90's.... Missed that one by a mile!

You got a point there. With these coastal storms, many tend to track along the coast or a bit further east and wind up clobbering Suffolk then clobbering the Boston area even worse. Last year was a prime example. On the other hand, coastal storms that track further west mean more snow for jersey, the city and Nassau, with Suffolk getting less and possibly mixing with sleet and rain.

I remember the storm last winter. I live in western Nassau and we got around a foot. Out east, Medford got 30 inches. It happens a lot with these nor'easters.

Why would they stay in a place where they had to cope with all of those things, and pay top dollar for the "privilege"? Only NYers are that stupid!

This the main culprit I think, when nor'easters are a snow event and Long Island is sticking out there right in the path of it, especially out east.

If you have lived here your whole life or have spent a significant portion of it you get kind of "seasoned in" and New York life becomes ingrained into the fabric of who you are. It makes it difficult to replicate a lot of the advantages conveniences and privileges we have here in other areas I think.
