Some of tribute bands that I've seen lately have been really good, and better than the originals sounded live. Some of these guys are even recreating entire shows right down to props, instruments, amps and set lists. One Genesis TB even reproduced Peter Gabriels costumes.

Thats a travesty.

Joey Ramone is rolling in his grave at the thought of WDRE gone Disco Italia.

Didnt WRCN go country once?

its not really "disco italia". its freestyle, trance, techno, r&b with a little "hip hop" sprikled in there.

all the stations do a little flipping. remember when 103.5 played dance in the 80s then switched to 97.1? they continued to play dance on 97.1 until rap became mainstream. 103.5 was county in the mid 90's until KTU came back from the dead and took the station over again, thank god.

Good point.

Actually I think LI could support a County station.

Radio is a dead medium but country fans, like hip hop are very loyal.

I saw the U2 tribute band 2U and on some of the songs, the singer flat
out sounds better than Bono. I guess that's to be expected considering Bono isn't a young guy any more, but we were all shocked at the pipes on the guy in the tribute band.

Also, there's a journey tribute band where the lead singer looks AND sounds so much like Steve Perry it's creepy.

yes..those club days in the 80s and early 90s...fond memories
..seeing many of the up and coming metal bands in the 80s ..very cool indeed..Guns n roses at Sundance in late 87...a great time...
..nothing beat Spit Rocks between 1988-1991..every Saturday was packed...
..I'll throw out a few club names from early 80s...see if they ring any bells..
"Cheers" in North Babylon....."Stage Door" in Deer Park, "the Stage" in Farmingdale..."Starship" in Farmingville...I used to love seeing Ruffkut at the Stage door on Thursday nights in 84 and 85...

I have seen a Nirvana tribute band on Long Island that is EXCELLENT. The members don't get together and play for the public that regularly because they are all on independent projects. If anyone is interested, PM me and I will give you the email address to get on their mailing list and they will send you a notice when they have another show.
