Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has reached a deal for a private company to manage the county's massive sewer system, saying the plan will save at least $233 million over 20 years and improve environmental protection.
The contract between Mangano and United Water of Harrington Park, New Jersey, calls for Nassau to pay the firm $57.4 million a year -- adjusted annually for inflation -- to operate its three major wastewater treatment plants, 53 pumping stations and 3,000 miles of sewers.
WASHINGTON—United Water Services Inc., the former contract operator of the Gary Sanitary District wastewater treatment works in Gary, Indiana, and two of its employees were charged today with conspiracy and felony violations of the Clean Water Act in a 26-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury, the Justice Department announced today.
United Water Services Inc., and employees Dwain L. Bowie, and Gregory A. Ciaccio, have been charged with manipulating daily wastewater sampling methods by turning up disinfectant treatment levels shortly before sampling, then turning them down shortly after sampling.
United Water Services entered into a 10-year contract to operate the Gary Sanitary District wastewater treatment works in 1998, in exchange for $9 million annually. United Water’s contract was renewed in May 2008
“None of them have been serviced, maintained, or even looked at in years,” says Hopper, head of plant maintenance at Cedar Creek, stone-faced. The 50-year-old’s demeanor fluctuates wildly when speaking about the plant’s many issues. He’s passionate, emotional, excitable. Frustrated.
Nice, so they'll fit right in with the management of PSEG and the LIRR
Your do realize what your first word was...right?
NICE! We all see how NICE Bus turned out, another one of Mangano's "public-private partnerships".
This is going to be a huge, stinky mess, literally!

Gee a public service now owned by criminals, my first thought was the county government was running it but United Water! They are worse than the mafia.....
Not sure where everyone else gets their water from, but mine sure isn't supplied by the sewer.
