If traveling via I95 I have stopped in Smithfield NC, exit #95 in NC. Handful of chain hotels and restaurants alongside the Carolina Premium Outlets. If you drive further south into SC I would stay in Florence, SC, a small city with plenty of hotel and restaurant choices. Try Tripadvisor for prices and reviews.
have done this many times, last time five years ago though. We usually stopped at the Jameson Inn in Wilson NC. Right off 95. At the time it was clean, not too expensive, decent continental breakfast included. check newer reviews though....
I'm headed that way next week. Planning on driving straight through though I probably won't make it. I'm getting old.
Probably make it to SC before I pass out at the wheel.
No idea where to get off/stay as I've always driven right through to FL.
Wilson or Dunn NC is the perfect "halfway point" driving from LI to Orlando. If you go east on US 64 (Rocky Mount NC) for one or two miles there are a ton of decent hotels.
I'm probably gonna stay in Florence. It's right there on 95 and like a gajillion hotels.
Never stayed there but I've passed through before so I'm a little familiar with it.
I've made it to Myrtle non stop a few years ago so Flo-rence should be fine as a stop over.

It's definitely the halfway point, but it seems to take a lot longer for the first half than the second half
Depending on when I left and any traffic issues I would stay at times in Emporia, VA which leaves a longer drive the next day but unless I run into problems the 70 mph speed limit for most of it makes the time go by faster.
I'd agree that northern NC is a good stopping point otherwise. LI to Florence SC is a long drive if you run into any issues leaving the island. That's at least a 10+ hour drive without stops.
I'm leaving in the dead of night on a weekend.
No north east traffic. Actually no traffic most of the drive when I go.
Same thing on the way home, I try to time it so when I get back into NJ/NY it's after dark on a weekend. I need to get used to this drive as I'm gonna be doing it a lot.
Ha ha! I'm already at the legal quota with my orders!
