Hello - My wife and I have recently found a house in the Elwood section of Huntington that we're really interested in. I would just like to know what people think of the area. Schools ok? Are there any areas to avoid living in? Diversity? Crime? Any input would help as I'm not familiar with the area. Thanks!
Thanks! What could potentially happen? Merger with a less desirable school district? Pardon my ignorance but I know nothing about school districts and living in the suburbs.

The only less desirable school district they border is South Huntington, which is pretty average, not a bad school district, just much more diverse and poorer than the other nearby areas. The other school districts Elwood borders-Commack, Northport, Half Hollow Hills, and Harborfields, are as good or even more desirable than Elwood. They floated merging back in 2011 I think and none of the neighboring districts were interested, so its unlikely.
If your child needs services from school, that might be a slight problem. They might cut back. Or they might cut back after-school activities, etc etc. I believe the main academic should be alright though.
