I have a contract on a house in Suffolk County and am supposed to close in less than a month. I have been advised to start looking for homeowners insurance. I found out today that the first two companies (major ones I might add- progressive and liberty mutual) do not insure Long Island, Queens or Brooklyn...probably has something to do with sandy. I managed to get one quote from a company called Universal but i want to shop around without wasting my time going through the whole spiel only to find out they don't insure. Who do you have for insurance?
got this company thru Geico Narragansett Bay Insurance Company after state farm raised me to $2100 a year I now pay $1400 big savings oh and after I sent state farm my new insurance they offered to keep my policy going for $1460 instead of $2100 I said good bye

I second this. Narragansett Bay via GEICO. As Alfred E Neuman would say CHEAP
I have Adirondack. It's a good deal when you bundle it with auto. Not so much if your only looking for standalone.
Same here..I get some sort of discount on my car insurance or something...I don't remember what or how. All I know is my first quote (also through GEICO) was with some no frills Jolly Fats Weehawken Insurance for like 2400/year, and that's for a cape nowhere near the water. I called back and they got me with Narragansett Bay for 850. It's gone up a bit over the years, I'm just about at 1000 now, but the policy is good...the dreaded "hurricane deductible" doesn't kick in until 110 MPH winds. I think we had about 80 with Sandy...and I had no damage anyway.

Safeco, I have been pleased with their service over the last 13 years. I highly recommend them, hopefully they service your area.
We are buying in N. Bellmore and are using State Farm. Funny thing is I work for another insurance company and even w/ my employee discount, State Farm's rate was cheaper..lol. We also inquired from Allstate, GEICO and Narrangasset Bay - State Farm was the cheapest.
I used Libery Mutual up until a month ago when I switched to Allstate which has great rates. That being said, make sure you speak to a local agent, not the main corporate office. When I first looked into Liberty, the rep I called through the main number said I lived too close to the water. I then called a local office and had no problem getting insurance.

I have to check that out...thanks.
