I didn't have much luck on those Asians supermarkets last Summer but to my surprise they had them yesterday at the Fairway in Plainview.
When I went to pay, the cashier looked at those and asked me what they were trying to find them in their system. While we were talking about them the woman behind me had her eyes wide open in awe and went running to get them. She came from another Mediterranean country, like myself, and she was also trying to find them here without much luck. She even went further as she tried to grow a tree here with, of course, not much success. Long Island climate is not the right one for growing loquats although I wonder if you could treat them like you do with fig trees, covering them in the Winter.
I wonder where this batch came from as they are a Spring fruit in the Mediterranean... maybe Chile or New Zealand.... who knows, but they were delicious (expensive as well).
Get them while they last...
Regards
Hipo
