recently we were at my family's home in Woodbury and decided to look at a open houses in Brookville and Oyster Bay Cove . The areas are gorgeous , a little too country if u ask me though. While driving down the main drag in OBC - Oyster Bay Cove rd . the side streets had no street signs ! some did but alot didn't . not mentioning the private roads but actual roads to lead to developments. Also in Brookville the street signs are little posts that u can hardly see the street names
wat does everyone else think ?
Think about it...you don't live here and are looking for so and so rd on a 50 mph street...and they purposely made the street sign 8" x 24" instead of 14" x 36"
It's the silly people that live here complaining about signs, there so big, it takes away from the towns look....there insane....i always hope it's them getting creamed by the truck from behind stopping to read the small sign...
Thats the polite way of saying "Stay out of our nice, rich and private town". Most towns that have an average house price of 2.0 mil and up tend to be the same way. "If you don't know where your going, we don't want you here"
Both Brookville and Oyster Bay Cove are villages (municipal corporations) and, as such, the respective village boards of trustees can determine the size of the street signs, etc., etc., in their municipalities.
For those who may not be familiar with Brookville:
Brookville is a village (incorporated in 1931) in the central part of the Town of Oyster Bay, in the north-central part of Nassau County, along the Oyster Bay/North Hempstead town line.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Brookville in the Town of Oyster Bay is bordered on the north by the Village of Old Brookville, the Village of Upper Brookville and the Village of Muttontown; on the east by the Village of Muttontown; on the south by the Hamlet of Jericho and the Village of Old Westbury; and, on the west by the Village of Old Westbury and the Village of East Hills in the Town of North Hempstead (the Oyster Bay/North Hempstead town line).
Brookville is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the village name in their mailing address: places in the Village of Brookville have a "Glen Head, NY 11545", "Greenvale, NY 11548" and "Jericho, NY 11753" mailing address.

Village boards, town boards, etc, should not be allowed to have anything to do with street signs...
Street signs should be relative to the speed limit for the streets there on...
Anything else should not determine the street sign size or color or reflectiveness...
Figure it like this, the 2nd line from the top on the eye test chart is legal for someone to drive without the need of glasses...
So street signs should be made to size using that as the gauge and the speed of the roadway as to how much to increase it by...
But like usual with anything involving safety, stupidity prevails...
Small or not, resident or not, I think it looks classy and beautiful!
Yeah it'll look great too when your crossing the street and there trying to read the sign and your under a car... Im sure it'll look real classy and beautiful from the hospital room window view when the officer comes to interview you and you ask what was he drunk, and the officer say's no he/she said they looked up to read the sign, didn't realize the light changed and heard a loud thump...oh im sorry the view will only be sky since you can't walk now...
