Why does Brookhaven Town need to see the inside of my apartment? What are they looking for? They don't go around inspecting people's houses. I don't understand how this is even legal

Inspections are required in most of Suffolk and Nassau counties. Inspectors will check for code violations, potential fire hazards and occupancy limit violations.
