Can someone explain why the water is so cheap in Long Island? I recently moved to dix hills/Huntington border and just received our first water bill. $15 for 53 days. It's myself and my husband, 2 loads of laundry a week and I do take very long showers. Is it similar prices all around LI?
This is certainly not the case in every town. I'm in western Nassau and have American Water. During the summer months my water bill swells to $60-75 A MONTH! Yes a month. Where my parents and in-laws who live out east don't pay anywhere near that and have much larger properties and use a lot more water. Just be grateful you don't have to deal with this sham of a company American Water.
It's not just me either. I spoke to my neighbors about this thinking it was just me or if I had a leak but they all pay around this much a month.

It depends on who supplies your water. Long Island has quite a few Water Districts.
In Suffolk County (where you are), the largest provider is the Suffolk County Water Authority - the highest prices for usage. You may be in the Greenlawn or Dix Hills Water District - usage price is much lower, but there is a line item on your tax bill for these districts (annual total is based on your assessment).
All I know is, whenever LI American Water took over my water bill went from 50/60 every 3 months to around the same EVERY month. I thought something was wrong and they said no, told me to check for leaks, blame the sprinklers, whatever. Nope, it's just the rates went up.
Depends on where you live and who your supplier is. Mine is the Franklin Square Water District. My bill every 3 months is roughly $28-$35 and we take long showers, do laundry 3-4 times a week and that's including summer months to water the lawn.

I've heard a number of homeowners complain about the high water bills from LI American Water
